The Southern or 'Outer' Atolls are all about 300 miles south of Male. It is a bit of an under explored zone and is known for having numerous world class waves. We will be catching a plane from Male 1 hour south to save on transfer time. Best way to see this region is by boat as the conditions can change. These waves are harder to get to due to their distance from Male, meaning more remote and little to no crowds. The surf can also be more powerful than in the north as they are closer to the storms and is more comparable to Indonesia. We think this is the place to get away from it all, surf quality waves, and enjoy a truly unique experience. It is a bit of an adventure and world class surf awaits.
After you fly in from your 1hr flight from Male, you will be taken out the yatch by dingy. Wind direction and swell can change and with a boat we can follow the best conditions to the optimal spots. As this isn’t a region a lot of operators know well, you must have a guide that really knows the area. We have one of the most experienced guides on the Gurahali and he will put us in the best zones.
The distance to the first break depending on conditions is 2-3 hours. Beacons is a favorite along with Five Islands, Blue bowls and Love Charms all with long walls and the potential for barrels. There are numerous lesser known spots that can turn on with the right conditions.
